This study reports an empirical investigation focusing or? the earning
s gap between male and female sales managers in Turkey and examines th
e possible effects of antecedents such as individual, firm, and indust
ry-level variables. In this study, data were gathered from the 500 lar
gest industrial companies. Findings suggest that there is an earnings
gap between Turkish male and female sales managers, occupational discr
imination is a significant predictor of the earnings gap, and the earn
ings gap between male and female sales managers can be attributed to t
he individual-, firm-, and industry-level variables. Relationships bet
ween antecedents and income were also largely as expected. This study
provides a starting point for a fertile al ea of research with importa
nt implications for sales manager and scholars as well as for organiza
tions themselves. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Inc.
