Abstract
A new global optimization method, which embeds the genetic search and simulated annealing concept into the ''hill-climbing'' methods, has be en presented for the design of diffractive phase plates. The new algor ithm combines the global exploration properties of Genetic/Annealing a lgorithms and the accurate exploitation power of the ''hill-climbing'' algorithms, resulting in quickly converging to the global optimum.
