The author presents the, results of a study examining the applicabilit
y of previous research on,resiliency-enhancing protective factors to t
he reduction of burnout bt human service managers. This study's findin
gs indicate statistically significant correlation between lower Maslac
h Burnout Inventory (MBI) scores and such protective factors as social
support maintaining one's sense of professional mission, receiving re
cognition for one's job-related talents mid skills, and increasing one
's sense of self-efficacy Implications of the findings for managers, a
gencies, and future research are discussed.
