A survey of different explanations of memory deficits related to aging
is presented. According to some, the decline of cognitive resources e
xplains memory performance. These cognitive resources include working
memory capacity, inhibitor efficiency and processing speed. According
to other explanations, more specific factors such as metamemory or emo
tion are responsible for memory performances. These explanations are d
escribed, global and analytic approaches are distinguished, and the id
ea that these explanations can determine our general idea of aging is
suggested.
