Abstract
Microscopic photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation spectro scopy are used in order to investigate exciton localization in quasi o ne dimensional systems such as crescent-shaped AlGaAs/GaAs quantum wir es grown on a V-grooved substrate. We found that one wire is segmented into extended sections of hundreds of nanometres with slightly differ ent confining potentials. Inside these sections one monolayer deep qua ntum boxes are present on the (001) top facet of the wire with lengths comparable to the exciton Bohr radius. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
