Abstract
We used a student-centered teaching method and a mixed-sex leaching te am to implement the major concepts of feminist and postmodernist pedag ogy in a course on men, women, and work. Defining the concept of class room diversity as including the number of voices heard, we examine the contributions of our method to creating an educational environment in which diversity is recognized and valued. We also describe students' responses to the model of work interaction provided by the female-male faculty team. Our experience, reviewed and evaluated through anonymou s student surveys at midterm and by a focus group at the end of the te rm, suggests that many problems associated with teaching nontraditiona l and controversial material can be mitigated by use of our student-le d discussion method and a team-teaching approach.
