Among other modern media such as newspapers, television or radio the i
nternet has developed into a very important source of information offe
ring a vast number of data. Within a short period one gets a lot of in
formation which earlier had to be investigated lengthy. So it is obvio
usly to use the excellent possibilities of the internet to get useful
information in the field of food and nutrition sciences. In order to a
void time-consuming and unsuccessful search of information in the data
jungle of the internet it is possible to use the offer of search engi
nes or better of information systems which are presented in the intern
et by different organisations for the field of nutrition, food and agr
iculture. After an introduction to the internet and a short view of di
fferent search engines, the article presents four different informatio
n systems, which focus information in the field of nutrition, food and
agriculture. These information systems are the German-language system
s DAINet and GENUIN as well as the English-language systems AgNIC and
WAICENT.
