Abstract
The diffuse reflectance, absorption, circular dichroism, and optical r otation spectra of Bi12VO20+delta crystals grown under hydrothermal co nditions were measured at room temperature. The t(1)-2e charge-transfe r transition of the [VO4](3-) tetrahedral complex is found to make a n egative contribution to the optical rotation of the vanadium sillenite . As distinct from other sillenite-structure crystals, Bi12VO20+delta features nearly zero optical rotation in the visible range.
