In this paper, based on the study of the thresholding method of the mo
rphological rank order hit-miss transform (ROHMT), we propose a one-ch
annel hit-miss transform and develope a rank order grayscale erosion t
o implement the ROHMT and its extension. Compared with the conventiona
l complement encoded hit-miss transform (HMT), we use only the origina
l image and a combined structuring element (SE). Based on this impleme
nting scheme, the HMT-based morphological processing systems can be gr
eatly simplified. Optical implementing schemes for the rank order gray
scale erosion are discussed. A proof-of-principle experiment is conduc
ted and the experiment result is also given.
