Training and development have featured as key issues on the 'new barga
ining agenda' outlined by the TUG. Although evidence suggests that uni
on successes in achieving a role in training decisions at the workplac
e have thus far bean limited, few studies have sought to examine the i
mpact of union involvement on training outcomes. Drawing on a survey o
f members and representatives from the Manufacturing Science and Finan
ce union, this paper demonstrates that union involvement in training d
ecisions is associated with relatively superior training activities an
d outcomes at the workplace.
