Abstract
This paper discusses the role of data networks integration on an async hronous transfer mode (ATM) core and compares the advantages achieved by the usage of ATM with those given by emerging technologies such as Internet protocol (IP) over synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) (giga- routers).
