M. Rao et al., INTEGRATED DISTRIBUTED INTELLIGENT SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE FOR INCIDENTS MONITORING AND DIAGNOSIS, Computers in industry, 37(2), 1998, pp. 143-151
Fault diagnosis based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology is a
significant domain of AI applications. Hazardous accidents and equipme
nt failures always result in environmental pollution and poor product
quality, and jeopardize the safety of equipment and human resources. A
s a result, accidents cost money, decrease productivity and profits. I
n this article, a generic integrated distributed intelligent system ar
chitecture for equipment monitoring, fault diagnosis and maintenance i
s discussed. The architecture consists of four individual modules: dat
a calibration, condition monitoring, fault diagnosis, and maintenance
assistance. It integrates different AI techniques such as heuristic re
asoning, case-based reasoning and hypermedia. An industrial applicatio
n using the architecture is presented. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
