A unified approach that makes it possible to determine the extent and
onset of transition in one calculation is presented. It treats the non
turbulent fluctuations in a manner similar to that used in describing
turbulence, As a result, the complete flowfield can be calculated usin
g existing computational fluid dynamics codes and without the use of s
tability codes. The method is validated by comparing the results for f
lat plates, airfoils, and infinite swept wings with available experime
nts. In general, good agreement is indicated.
