Sm. Osborn et al., INTROVERSION-EXTROVERSION, SELF-MONITORING, AND APPLICANT PERFORMANCEIN A SITUATIONAL PANEL INTERVIEW - A FIELD-STUDY, Journal of business and psychology, 13(2), 1998, pp. 143-156
This study investigated relationships between applicant introversion-e
xtraversion, self-monitoring, and performance in a situational panel i
nterview. Police officers applying for promotion to the rank of sergea
nt in a metropolitan police department participated in a selection int
erview and completed a personality questionnaire. Results showed self-
monitoring moderated the relation between introversion-extraversion an
d interview performance. As predicted, the relationship was stronger f
or low self-monitors than for high self-monitors. Extraverted, high se
lf-monitoring and introverted, low self-monitoring promotion candidate
s were rated highest by selection interview panelists.
