This article pictures a fascinating and sometimes confusing world in w hich different schools of thought, several methodological approaches, and distinct foci in terms of industrial background, modes of cooperat ion, and international patterns lay out the complexity against which o ne has to understand interorganizational networks and alliances. Given the multifaceted character of this topic, we encourage researchers to incorporate major elements of a multidimensional orientation in their future research.
