Abstract
The physical methods of preparing high-purity scandium (vacuum melting , vacuum distillation and sublimation, zone melting) are examined and compared with electrorefining in halide melts. The advantages and draw backs of the methods are highlighted. The conclusion is made that elec trorefining in salt melts is a commercially viable technique for produ cing high-purity scandium.
