The single crystals of organic nonlinear optical material, benzoyl gly
cine were grown by the solvent evaporation technique using N,N-dimethy
l formamide as solvent. Single crystals of size 20 x 10 x 5 mm(3) were
obtained. The UV-VIS spectrum shows a cut-off wavelength less than 30
0 nm. The grown crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffractio
n, IR, NMR and mass spectroscopy. The second-harmonic generation effic
iency in these crystals is found to be 1.5 times higher than that in K
