Aa. Carelli et al., QUANTITATIVE-DETERMINATION OF PHOSPHOLIPIDS IN SUNFLOWER OIL, Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 74(5), 1997, pp. 511-514
Phospholipids from sunflower oil samples were enriched by using solid-
phase extraction (SPE) cartridges and subsequently separated and analy
zed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with an ultraviol
et detector. The recovery of individual phospholipids at different tot
al concentrations in model oils and the repeatability of the method we
re investigated. The results demonstrated the utility of SPE-H PLC for
quantitative analysis of phospholipids in sunflower oil and the effec
tiveness for concentrating, separating, identifying, and quantitating
phospholipids in samples with phosphatide contents as low as 0.1%. Sam
ples of sunflower oil at different stages of processing were analyzed,
and phospholipid profiles in hexane-extracted oil, hat-pressed oil, a
nd water-degummed oils were compared.
