Pj. Gent et Le. Gurecka, SERVICE LEARNING - A CREATIVE STRATEGY FOR INCLUSIVE CLASSROOMS, Journal of the Association for the Severely Handicapped, 23(3), 1998, pp. 261-271
The movement for full inclusion is often hindered by the lack of creat
ive and alternative teaching methodologies in regular classrooms. Serv
ice learning not only offers an alternative to traditional classroom t
eaching methods, it is also a vehicle to provide inclusive community b
ased instruction, to promote the development of communities, and to pr
ovide functional skills training. This paper defines service learning
and its components while also discussing applicability of service lear
ning for all students.
