The National Institutes of Health F series of training and fellowship grants provides graduate students with opportunities to demonstrate their potential as current and future researchers. Submitting a grant application provides excellent experience in the proposal writing, submission, and review processes, which is particularly important for graduate students pursuing academic careers. This article is intended to familiarize students with the grant application process and focuses on funding mechanisms available through the National Institutes of Health. We provide a detailed overview of the application process, including research proposal preparation and application submission. The review procedure is described, and we address the process for revising and resubmitting an application.
