Students in an experimental design class were trained in survey resear
ch and gerontological research issues through a class project that inv
olved interviewing older adults and resulted in a term paper written a
s a journal manuscript. Various other aspects of the course, including
statistical analysis library searches, informed consent issues, and d
ealing with sexist and ageist language, were integrated into this clas
s project. Benefits of this approach to teaching experimental design a
re discussed.
