This article presents a part of the results of a survey carried out in
the project ''Preparation to Retirement Through Older Persons,'' fina
nced by the European Commission in the European Year of Older People a
nd Solidarity between Generations. The purpose of this study was to an
alyze problems and needs concerning retirement, to gain Knowledge on w
hich to base the planning of retirement preparation programs for peopl
e still professionally active. In this context, rue analyzed the exper
ience and suggestions of 478 retirees who belonged to a voluntary asso
ciation for the elderly. Data were obtained via a questionnaire that t
he retired participants filled in themselves The results show that mor
e than half had no problems in their retirement experience. A great in
terest, however was shown in the programs, without difference in set,
age, education, or work experience Even those who stated they had had
no problems with retirement showed interest in the initiatives. Analys
es of results suggest adopting programs that cover a wide range of sub
jects, not only material but also psychological and social. The intere
st found indicates that development of retirement programs should be c
ontinued for those who are already retired.
