FeSi sheets are widely employed in industry because of their good soft
magnetic properties. Many studies have been concentrated on such syst
ems but not often when subjected to a thermochemical treatment. Tn thi
s study, we have determined the structural and mechanical behaviour of
FeSi sheets when subjected to a nitriding thermochemical treatment pe
rformed in a fluidized-bed laboratory furnace. The distribution of the
nitrogen follows an exponential law at each side of the sample. The i
ndexation of the X-ray diffraction peaks allows the identification of
some nitrides. These nitrides seem to improve the surface microhardnes
s of the ahoy.
