P. Blaise et al., IDENTIFICATION OF CYCLOPENTENYL FATTY-ACIDS BY H-1 AND C-13 NUCLEAR-MAGNETIC-RESONANCE, Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 74(6), 1997, pp. 727-730
Gorlic, chaulmoogric and hydnocarpic fatty acids, specific to the seed
oil of the genus Hydnocarpus sp. (Flacourtiaceae), are determined onl
y with difficulty by gas chromatography. These fatty acids were isolat
ed in their methyl ester form by a combination of different chromatogr
aphic techniques (thin-layer chromatography/Ag+ and high-pressure liqu
id chromatography). The proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance a
nalysis of these fatty acid methyl esters showed some characteristic s
ignals of the cyclopentenyl ring. The presence of these signals in the
proton and/or carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of an oil th
us will allow us to confirm the presence of these cyclopentenyl fatty
acids in lipids.
