The ferroelectric domain structures of various liquid-phase epitaxiall
y grown thin films, such as MgO-doped LiNb1-xTaxO3 grown from the Li2O
-V2O5 flux system, were investigated using unique LiNbO3 substrates su
ch as a rectangular bar and cylindrical fiber. Domain-inverted films w
ere grown only on the surface of LiNbO, oriented toward the + Z direct
ion, except in the case of homoepitaxial growth, Unexpected domain str
ucture was observed in the case of the LiN1-xTaxO3 film grown on the L
iNbO3 substrate, that is, complex multi-domain structured LiNb1-xTxO3
films were grown on X surfaces, even though single-poled films were ob
tained on Z surfaces.
