Abstract
An optical system formed by cylindrical lenses can be described by mea ns of a bidimensional Fourier transform with a different scale in the x and y axis (GFT). The conexion with the Fourier transform (FT) is sh own. By using the propagation operator. the Chase delay in cylindrical lenses and the FT we find different ways of describing an optical sys tem. Some mathematical properties of the GFT are demonstrated in the a ppendix.
