Abstract
This study examined the relation of cognitive factors (implicit theori es, self-schemas, and perceived similarity) to liking and leader-membe r exchange (LMX) in a field setting. Perceived similarity significantl y predicted LMX quality, with liking mediating this relationship, Supe rvisor-subordinate match on implicit performance theories, the normati veness of both subordinates' and supervisors' self schemas, and subord inates' negative affectivity also predicted liking and LMX ratings. Th e theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discuss ed.
