Abstract
Organizations increasingly are becoming distributed. Agent-based proce ss management systems (APMSs) combine the latest distributed computing techniques with autonomous software-agent technology to provide a ser vice-oriented view of a business process in order to meet the requirem ents of open distributed enterprises, now and in the future. This arti cle outlines the hey benefits of adopting an APMS approach. It describ es the APMS architecture and an example in the ADEPT system.
