The Curie temperatures of 53 A(m-1)Bi(2)M(m)O(3m+3) layered perovskite
-like ferroelectrics are examined in relation to the structure and com
position of these compounds. In general, no correlation can be reveale
d between T-C and Goldschmidt's tolerance factor t. However, these com
pounds can be divided into groups, each characterized by its own T-C(t
) dependence. It seems likely that the T-C of the ferroelectrics consi
dered here is controlled by the chemistry of the perovskite layer.
