Abstract
A new procedure is proposed for preparing strongly textured YBa2Cu3O7- x fibers via quasi-equilibrium vapor-transport reaction of Y2BaCuO5 an d a BaO + CuO mixture. The reaction is catalyzed by water and chloride vapors. The procedure yields dense YBa2Cu3O7-x fibers consisting of p latelike crystallites. A significant alignment of YBa2Cu3O7-x crystall ites can be achieved when chemically modulated precursors are used.
