This paper describes the test construction, the possibilities and the
limits now visualisation in a 20 Litre model of a cylindroconical tank
. Visualisation by the light intersection method on cylindroconical ta
nk models enables flows in cylindroconical tanks to be shown in princi
ple in qualitative correlation with larger models and tanks being used
in practice. This applies both to the visualisation of the bubble col
umn during the main fermentation, heat convection as well as also for
the different filling and emptying operations. Should further studies
make a scale-lip possible this method could be a way of optimizing the
dimensioning and equipping of cylindroconical tanks and process visua
lisation without great experimental expense.
