In this paper the continuous flow analysis method has been compared wi
th a conventional method according to Thalacker and Birkenstock for de
termination of the thiobarbituric acid count in specific brewery sampl
e matrices. In addition the costs and analytical expenditure incurred
during the tests are compared. The equivalence of the analytical proce
ss was verified with the help of mathematical statistics based on DIN
38402 Part 71. The determined standard deviations and variation coeffi
cients of the automated method are clearly below those of conventional
methods. A reduction of expenditure in time and costs per analysed sp
ecimen could be established for the continuous flow analysis method. T
he described continuous flow method of analysis can be recommended for
brewery analysis with due consideration to the given way of applicati
on.
